Paint and Grow Your Own Little Pizza Herb Garden: Paint planters and plant markers, and sow basil, oregano, and arugula herbs – bright colors and delicious flavors. Follow the included step-by-step instructions.

1. Place the plastic liner inside the aluminum planter, This will help your plants retain water. For better irrigation, you might want to add a layer of rocks (not included) at the bottom of the plastic liner.

2.Set the three expanding soil disks into a large bowl (as big as the planter), and add3-4 cups of warm water. Let the soil disks soak for at least an hour – you’ll see them expand to 6-8 times their original size.

3. Once fully expanded, mix the soil thoroughly, and then drain the soil well by firmly squeezing it remove all excess water until the soil is only moist.

4. Gently crumble the soil and place it in the planter until it is almost full.

5. While the soil is soaking up its water, soak the seeds in a bowl of water for about 30 minutes.

6. Divide your planter into 3 equal parts and place your markers the soil at the front of each section, so you don’t forget what you planted where.

Oregano likes full sun, and planting oregano requires sufficient light

Don’t overwater, only water again when the soil is completely dry.

Arugula Plant Care

Arugula grows best in full sun, which means at least six hours of direct sunlight on most days. It also does well in part sun, especially in warmer climates. But as temperatures start to rise, provide some afternoon shade. This will help prevent the plants from wilting and plugging (flowering and going to seed), extending the harvest for as long as possible.

Arugula plants are happiest in well-drained soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH. They tolerate a variety of soil types, but prefer nutrient-rich loam.

Like many vegetables, arugula needs regular watering for healthy growth and optimal flavor. It has a shallow root system. Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy, and water as soon as the top of the soil feels dry. In dry climates, this may mean watering every morning. If you don’t water regularly, you can cause the plant to tether and spoil the flavor of the leaves.

The germination temperature of arugula is 15 to 20 degrees Celsius, and the most suitable temperature for growth is 15 to 25 degrees Celsius. It tolerates frost but does not like the heat of summer. You can extend the arugula growing season by protecting it from freezing with row covers and from the heat with shade. But the best strategy is to plant it at the right time. It doesn’t need high humidity, and grows well in dry climates as long as it gets enough water.
